At Mobility Joy, we’re committed to helping individuals live more independently and move with confidence — especially those living with Parkinson’s disease. Our recent delivery of a Rollz Rhythm walker to Dale, one of our wonderful clients on the Central Coast, shows just how much of a difference the right assistive technology can make.
Dale’s New Rollz Rhythm – Designed for Parkinson’s Support.
The Rollz Rhythm isn’t your average walker — it’s been thoughtfully engineered to meet the needs of people with neurological conditions, particularly Parkinson’s disease. Dale’s Rollz was customised with wheelchair accessories, including a 16" x 16" seat and footrests, allowing it to convert into a comfortable transport wheelchair when needed.
This gives users like Dale the freedom to walk when they can and rest when they need — all with the safety, flexibility, and dignity they deserve.
Reverse Braking: A Smart Feature for Parkinson’s Management
One of the standout features of the Rollz Rhythm is its reverse braking system — and here’s why it matters:
- The walker remains stationary (braked) by default
- The user must squeeze the brake handles to release the brakes and move.
-
Releasing the brake handles re-engages the brakes immediately.
This system encourages a conscious movement initiation, which can help individuals overcome freezing of gait, a common symptom of Parkinson’s. It also prevents the walker from rolling away unintentionally, offering an added layer of safety and control.
Movement Cues to Support Natural Gait
The Rollz Rhythm is designed to help users maintain a steady walking pace and consistent stride length. In addition to the braking system, it features:
- Laser line projection to visually cue the next step.
- Handlebar vibrations to prompt rhythm and movement.
-
Auditory cues (metronome) to support timing and cadence.
These cues work together to encourage a more natural, confident gait — something that many walkers on the market simply don’t address.
Wheelchair Conversion Kit for Rest and Travel
Dale’s walker was fitted with the optional Rollz wheelchair seat and footrests, allowing it to transform into a transport wheelchair within seconds. This dual functionality is ideal for individuals with fluctuating mobility, offering peace of mind to users and carers alike.
