What makes the Q50 R Carbon different from other folding power wheelchairs
It's fabricated from premium carbon fiber, making it one of the world's lightest carbon folding power wheelchairs at just 32 lbs. (without batteries). The carbon frame also naturally flexes over uneven surfaces, delivering a smoother, shock-absorbing ride.
How much weight can it support despite being so light?
Up to 300 lbs. — higher than many other carbon folding power wheelchairs, thanks to the strength of its carbon fiber construction.
How do I fold it?
Folding is simple: flip up the clip at the back, fold the footplate, and push the backrest down. There's no need to remove the battery, and a standard transport strap keeps it securely folded while being lifted.
How small does it fold down?
Folded dimensions are just 30.2" length x 22.4" width x 14.6" height — compact enough to fit in the trunk of a small car, under stairs, or on a train or bus.
Can I take it on a plane?
Yes. Its lithium-ion battery is IATA-approved (UN3171 classification) for air travel. Individual airlines may have their own requirements, so confirm with your carrier beforehand.
How far can it travel on a single charge?
Up to 7.5 miles with the standard 10Ah lithium-ion battery, or up to 15 miles with the optional second battery installed in its additional battery slot.
How fast does it go?
Top speed is 3.7 mph, suited for indoor and everyday outdoor use.
How tight a turning radius does it have?
Just 31.5" — small enough to maneuver easily through narrow hallways, kitchens, and other tight indoor spaces.
What motor does it use?
A 250W high-efficiency brushless motor, capable of climbing obstacles up to 1.5" while optimizing battery range.
Can the battery be charged without removing it from the chair?
Yes. It can be charged directly via the nVR2 BLDC motor controller's charging socket, or removed and charged separately using the side charging port.
Does it have any visibility or safety features?
Yes. A super bright brake light comes standard, improving visibility and awareness for others around you at night.
How often should the wheelchair be serviced?
Ideally at least once a year, by an authorized Sunrise Medical dealership.
What cushion options are available?
It pairs with the JAY X2, JAY Basic, and JAY GO wheelchair cushions, among others in the full JAY range — your local dealer can help match the best option to your needs.
