What is the Configura Bariatric?
It’s a bariatric riser recliner built around an adjustable design. The width, depth, backrest and legrest can all be changed to suit the user, before and after delivery, so the chair can keep up as needs change. The covers are removable and washable.
What capacities are available?
There are two weight capacities: 254 kg and 317 kg. The legrest holds up to 127 kg on the 254 kg chair and 158 kg on the 317 kg chair.
What is dual motor operation?
Two motors control the backrest recline and legrest elevation independently, so the user or carer can find the right position for comfort and support. The handset has four buttons. The standard dual motor chair does not tilt in space.
What does tilt-in-space add?
The tilt-in-space model is available at 254 kg with an independent legrest. The whole chair tilts back while the angle at the hips stays the same, which helps keep the pelvis stable, spreads pressure over a wider area and reduces the tendency to slide forward. It can also help with circulation and make hoisting easier. Because the legrest is independent, tilt can be used while the legs are lowered, which suits users with limited knee bend or shortened hamstrings.
What pressure care does it come with?
A visco memory foam seat is standard, with medium to high pressure risk in mind. Options include a castellated cushion for users who can’t tolerate visco foam, and a powered alternating air cushion for higher risk (254 kg capacity). Choosing a pressure cushion is a clinical decision, so your OT or nurse should guide it.
What postural options are there?
The standard backrest has three height-adjustable pillows with customisable filling, giving mild to moderate postural support. You can add lateral supports under the pillows, a profiled headrest for users with reduced head control, and a channel legrest to reduce leg abduction.
What other extras are available?
Choose a left or right hand control, a battery back-up (around 20 cycles) for power cuts, an optional 30 degree tilt on the 254 kg tilt-in-space model, a Duratek fabric backrest (not pressure reducing), depth adjustment kit for a shallower 18" seat, and Duratek armrests in different widths.
Where is it designed to be used?
At home, in care homes and in nursing homes. The manufacturer says it is not intended for users with demanding postural needs, fixed postures or contractures, or for users who need to be transported from room to room in it.
How do I look after the fabric?
Wipe it regularly with a damp cloth or a soap-free microfibre cloth, and vacuum weekly. Clean spills within 15 minutes with cold water. Don’t machine wash, dry clean or use polish, solvents or stain remover.
How do I get one?
We recommend having the chair assessed and chosen by an OT or physiotherapist, who will confirm the size and options. We work with NDIS, DVA, Support at Home and private funding, and we’ll guide you and your clinician if funding isn’t sorted yet. We deliver and set up across the Central Coast.
