Sleep positioning systems are therapeutic aids and modules that promote a safe sleeping position in patients with complex postural management needs that develop as a result of conditions like Ataxia, Atheotosis, Dystonia, Hypotonia, Spasticity and other musculoskeletal problems commonly related to Cerebral Palsy. Sleep positioning systems may increase length and quality of sleep for both the individual and their caregivers and provide a safe bed posture for patients with breathing difficulties, or who are at risk of aspiration.
Mobility Joy is proud to be the Central Coast’s distributor of Poz’ In’ Form and CareWave cushions; the two ranges of sleep systems that are at the leading edge of industry, offering forms of padded contouring to maintain the body in a constant position during sleep and rest.
Poz’in’Form elements and modules are completely removable, washable and come in two different options of cover material: Pharmatex or Lenzing FR.
The Pharmatex bi-elastic cover is made of polyurethane and is recommended for use in hospitals. Pharmatex is very soft to the touch while still easy to clean.
The Lenzing FR cover is made of a flexible, elastic viscose material coated with a waterproof polyurethane film. Lenzing FR is a major innovation in cerebral palsy sleep positioning and bed positioning of the long-term bed bound user, preventing maceration.
The filling of Poz’in’Form cushions lends great contouring properties to different body shapes and ensures optimal pressure distribution. It's made of thin microfiber that contributes to a significant reduction in friction and shearing forces while preventing pressure sores and limiting microbial infections.
CareWave cushions feature a stretchable bi-elastic Polyurethane cover with AG Protect bio-proof processing, an anti-microbial treatment that makes them easy to clean and disinfect. Their specialist feature is the filling, composed of high quality round polystyrene micro particles. As thin as sand, the extreme small form-factor of the micro-beads used in CareWave cushions allows rapid and easy postures, comfortably protecting the patient on body parts in contact with the cushion.
The implementation of Cerebral Palsy sleep positioning systems on a patient requires the advice of a specialist health professional or physiotherapist who can asses factors like:
* Preferred sleep position
* Rate of growth (if young)
* Susceptibility to pressure sores and physical ability
* Muscle tone
* Postural deformity
* Presence of contracture
* Source of pain
* Respiration and aspiration status
* Ability to regulate body temperature
Therapists can then help identify goals for a sleep positioning system and whether referral to other health professionals such as a sleep clinic is required. This assessment will identify the most appropriate sleep positioning system to be trialed and evaluated.

*Placed under knees, it supports the knees’ joint, prevents the patient from sliding downwards and reduces friction and shearing effects on the sacrum area.
•It can be used in a semi- fowler position and helps to maintain posture while relieving pressure in sensitive areas (sacrum, ischial tuberosities, heels) and shifting it to low-risk zones (calves, thighs and back).
Available in different sizes, universal cushions can be used in many differentways. In lying down they can be used for knee flexion and amoderate hip abduction.The smaller cushions help to hold the patient in optimal positioning, whether lying down or in a wheelchair thusreducing bedsore risks and abnormal postures.
•Placed between legs, it reduces friction and shearing effects on the thighs' and knees’ area.
•It can also be used under ankles to relieve pressure.
•It is used in the crotch area when the patient is lying down to hold hips abducted and legs apart in order to reduce friction and shearing effects between legs, and on the inner sides of knees and calves.
The Fitleg leg positioning system is provided by CareWave only. It is especially designed to allow leg stability and to relieve total heel pressure. The contact and softness of the Viscolux foam provides ultimate comfort.
* Relieves pressure on heels.
* Provides proper orthopedic alignment of lower limbs.
* Limits the opening angle at knee level.
•In supine or semi-fowler position it supports and holds the back in proper position. This night time positioning system can also be used in (wheel) chairs for a comfortable and upright sitting position.
•A multi-purpose cushion, it comfortably supports shoulders, back, hips and knees when the patient is lying in lateral position. Moreover, it reduces friction and shearing effects.
•In combination with the cylindrical cushion, when it comes to special needs sleep positioning systems, the half ring cushion reduces friction and shearing effects between legs, on the inner sides of knees and thighs and holds hips abducted. It can also be used under the neck.
•This cushion can be used in addition to universal, triangle or cylindrical cushions to support the posture correction. Put around the neck, this cushion comfortably supports the patient’s head.
•The hollow ensures an optimal positioning and a pressure relief on the occipital area. The combination of memory foam and microfiber allows a regular relief on the contact zones.
•It is placed at the bottom of the bed and fixed with an adjustable strap.
•The pressure on the heels is completely discharged.
•The heel cushion holds the ankles in proper position.
•This cushion contributes to shift the pressure points from the high-risk heel area to low-risk zones (calves and knees).
•The heel is completely off the mattress and the weight of the lower leg is distributed evenly across the cushion. It holds the ankles in proper position and leads to a better blood circulation.
•Its size allows pressure relief on the Achilles’ heel.
•This positioning cushion for the hand reduces the pressure on the skin on the zones with risk of pressure sore, making it great for recovery after surgical operations.
•It reduces the number of pressure sensitive bearing points and allows a discharge of the elbows area while its size allows pressure relief on the wrist.
